FAQs about Calibra Dog Food and Treats

How do I choose the best Calibra food for my dog?

When choosing a specific food for your dog, consider things like their size, age, and any health concerns. Our Life, Verve and Premium ranges are great for everyday nutrition, while our veterinary diet range is designed to target specific health conditions.

Should I feed my dog breed-specific food?

Although breed diets can be helpful, life stage and health needs are usually more important to focus on. A senior labrador with arthritis may do better on a mobility-support diet than on a general “Labrador” formula.

How do I transition my dog to a new food?

Take your time transitioning your dog to a new food, as completely changing to a new food may lead to digestive upset and other issues. Gradual transition helps to prevent vomiting, diarrhoea, and loss of appetite.

Start by mixing the new food with the old food over 5-7 days (25%, 50%, 75%, then 100%) For sensitive dogs, take it even slower. You know your dog best, so keep an eye out for cues that could be due to discomfort.

Can senior or adult dogs eat puppy food?

We wouldn’t recommend feeding puppy food to your senior dog. Puppy food is higher in calories and nutrients to promote growth, and fully grown dogs don’t need as high a calorie intake as this will lead to weight gain – possibly creating further issues such as diabetes and arthritis.

What treats are available for dogs on veterinary diets?

We have our own line of dog treats within our veterinary diets range for weight management, mobility, hypoallergenic, and gastrointestinal support – and they can be fed alongside other branded veterinary diets.

What if my dog doesn’t like a veterinary diet?

If your dog is particularly picky, try feeding them the wet version of our veterinary diets or mix with the with their old food during the transition. We’re incredibly confident in the palatability of Calibra pet food, so much so that we offer a 100% money-back guarantee if your dog isn’t happy with their food.

Are Calibra dog food and treats grain free?

We offer both grain-free and grain-inclusive recipes to suit the different dietary needs of your pet.

How should I store Calibra dog food and treats?

Store dry food and treats in the original packaging, in a cool, dry place. Once opened use within 6-8 weeks. Store wet food in a cool, dry place until opened, then store in the refrigerator and use within 2-3 days.

Can I freeze Calibra dog food?

Dry food doesn’t need freezing, but you can freeze wet food in an airtight container if you want it to last longer. Defrost in the fridge.

How long does wet food last once opened?

Keep refrigerated and use within 2-3 days. Check for any changes in smell or texture before serving.

Can I feed Calibra treats to puppies?

You can feed some treats to puppies, such as our Calibra treat options for puppies. Always check the packaging for guidance on ages.

When should I switch my puppy to adult food?

This differs depending on the size of the breed, but here are rough guidelines:

How often should I feed my puppy?

Here are our recommendations of how often you should feed your puppy:

  • Up to 3 months: 4 meals a day
  • 3-6 months: 3 meals a day
  • 6-12 months: 2 meals a day

These meals are calculated based on the daily amount required, as found on the back of our packaging.

Can I give my puppy Calibra wet food?

Yes, wet food is gentler on teeth and digestion for puppies. You can just feed them wet food on its own, or mixed with dry puppy food after they are around 4 weeks old.
